The other key date is 31 August with the Freccia dei Vini, an international race reserved for the Élite and Under 23 categories, which will be presented officially on Wednesday 2 July at 10:00 in the council chamber of the Municipality of Voghera:
“For the second year in a row the start will be from Voghera,” says Bombini – “and I would say we can also make the finish in Rivanazzano Terme official.”
“Without going into too much detail, because of course we’ll reveal the full route that day, I can say that we decided to cover the whole Oltrepò as much as possible.”
“The other new development concerns the distance: we are going back to a length more in line with the history of the race.”
“Last year it was relatively short, still giving plenty of excitement to the fans, but now we have decided to restore a demanding and important distance, as has always been the tradition of the Freccia.”
“It remains a cornerstone of cycling in the area, always very popular and followed with passion. It deserves to be improved every year.”
Freccia dei Vini shines a light on the champions of the future:
“I have to say that in Italy we have some very interesting talents, in particular Lorenzo Mark Finn, who gives us good reason for optimism.”
“Amateur cycling is in good shape.”
“Among the pros we have a small group of phenomenal riders, but I’m very enthusiastic about our Italian cyclists too.”
“It would be important to have an Italian World Tour team to bring them together, because they could express their qualities even better.”
