THE EVENT
The 52nd edition of the classic Freccia dei Vini is scheduled for Saturday 24 August. For the first time, the race starts from Voghera and finishes in Golferenzo, with a 124 km point-to-point course entirely set in the Oltrepò Pavese.

Context & special prizes
The finish is in the charming medieval village of Golferenzo, fresh from hosting the Italian Gravel Championship . Up for grabs there are also the 3rd Gran Premio Losito Guarini and the 1st Gran Premio Borgo dei Gatti. Over 25 teams are already registered (several from abroad) and the number is growing.

- Voghera → Broni: fast flat section, ideal for early breakaways kept under control.
- Canneto and Montù Beccaria: “rideable” climbs but decisive for selection.
- Finale in Golferenzo: rolling terrain where pacing and positioning will be crucial.
The presentation of 31 July 2024
In the Council Chamber of the Municipality of Voghera (PV) the press conference was held to present the 52nd Freccia dei Vini, a road race for Élite and Under 23 riders that will light up Saturday 24 August with 124 km from Voghera to Golferenzo.
Institutional speakers
The “host” Paola Garlaschelli opened the speeches: “Our town is being linked to one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, Golferenzo, and we’ll do everything we can to make sure the start from Voghera is as special as this event deserves.”
Regional Welfare Councillor Elena Lucchini added: “We are working to relaunch our area through sport, a crucial element that allows us to involve families, to grow and to build a team spirit.”
Regional Councillor Claudio Mangiarotti underlined how the race combines the sporting side with the promotion and appreciation of the area, highlighting wine as a local excellence.
“The area is the common thread of the Freccia dei Vini,” recalled Riccardo Magrini, voice of international cycling on Eurosport, also present at the conference.
The course and the organizational vision
Emanuele Bombini, head of the organizing committee, spoke: “We thought long and hard about the safety of our race, designing a route that would truly embrace the whole Oltrepò Pavese. The Freccia will run further away from the main roads and will pass through many local towns. Our big goal is to bring the Freccia dei Vini into the professional calendar.”
Former pro Evgenij Berzin, who has made Broni his home, praised the route: “It’s a very interesting course; there is less climbing than in past editions, but on 24 August it will be very hot and only the strongest will prevail.”
Federation focus and the territory
From the Italian Cycling Federation, Stefano Pedrinazzi, President of the Lombardy Regional Committee, said: “As a regional committee we can only thank the organizers of this race. The Freccia is a fantastic opportunity for riders who dream of turning professional.”
Echoing him, Gianbattista Deantoni (President of the Pavia Provincial Committee): “As the Pavia provincial committee we worked hard to keep the tradition of the Freccia dei Vini alive and I can only thank Emanuele Bombini.”
Giuseppe Giovanetti (Sports Councillor, Voghera) added: “I’m delighted that the start of the sixth ‘classic of Italy’ is right here in Voghera and that the finish is in Golferenzo. It will be a beautiful journey.”
Andrea Frustagli (Provincial Councillor) concluded: “Cycling is the only sport that truly promotes the area, and the Freccia dei Vini is a virtuous example of this.”
Health, guests and links
In closing, Dr. Mario Sturla (Sports Medicine) remarked: “The health of athletes and staff always comes first. It will be a pleasure to support the organization.”
Also joining remotely were Claudio Chiappucci and Gianni Bugno, who praised the organization and the importance of the Freccia for Italian cycling.
Organizational note
Coordination is led by the Comitato Eventi Sportivi Oltrepò and the “Il Branco” Cycling School: choices regarding start and logistics are driven by safety, with the goal of delivering a memorable edition. The date is set for Saturday 24 August, with over 30 teams starting from Piazza del Duomo (Voghera) and finishing in Golferenzo.
